35 whelen ammo Product Overview

35 whelen ammo is a high Superformance ammunition is loaded with proprietary propellants that increase the velocity ratings up to 200 feet per second compared to other popular brands.

Because there is no increase in pressure, regardless of the caliber, there is no increase in felt recoil but there IS an increase in efficiency and high speed performance.

From sub-zero arctic temperatures to almost unbearable desert heat, Superformance ammunition can withstand any hunting condition.

Hornady makes a large variety of what might be considered “conventional” bullets.

These soft point bullets benefit from the same quality manufacturing techniques as Hornady’s premium bullets and will consistently perform at a level well above conventional.

35 Whelen Ammo history

While it was discovered that the 35 whelen ammo was invented by 1922 it was an ammo cartridge for wildcats till Remington began to sell Model 700, a

Model 700 chambered for  in 1988. It is used to hunt big game especially within North America.

While not as well-known than it’s .30-06 Springfield parent case, the bigger 35 Whelen bullets measure .358 inches/9.1 millimeters in diameter.

This makes the ballistics very different. Utilizing 180-250 gr bullets, the muzzle velocity is around 2.72 fps (feet per second) and average muzzle velocity of around 3,483 ft-lb (foot-pounds).

The range of maximum effectiveness is around 400 yards for hunting big game which makes it a great option for chasing the big game and is a favorite among handloaders.

We stock the latest factory loads from top brands such as Hornady, Federal as well as Barnes.!

The caliber is used for big game hunting, particularly in North America.

Although not as widely known as its .30-06 Springfield parent case, the larger 35 Whelen bullets are .358 inches/9.1 mm in diameter, and this changes the ballistics considerably.

Using 180 gr to 250 gr bullets, muzzle velocity averages about 2,724 fps (feet per second) and average muzzle velocities around 3,483 ft-lb (foot-pounds).

The maximum effective range is about 400 yards for big game hunting, making it an excellent contender for going after that big trophy and is popular among handloaders.

What is the maximum range of a 35 Whelen ammo ?

300 yards

35 Whelen, 225-grain AccuBond

Maximum point blank range on an 8-inch target is a smooth 300 yards with this 225-grain projectile.

This suggests you could hire it to hunt pronghorns and mule deer or even mountain sheep while

retaining good to excellent punch and penetration for elk, moose, and rampaging grizzlies

What is 35 Whelen ammo equivalent to?

The 35 Whelen is a necked out .30–06 which in the 1930s became a sweet spot hunting cartridge.

What are the best loads for the 35 Whelen ammo ?

35 Whelen was built by Hill Country Rifles using a Benchmark barrel.
While it shoots most bullets well, it really shines with the Barnes 200-grain TTSX and the Nosler 250-grain Partition.
While I’d choose a heavier bullet for use on a hunt for big, toothy bears, the TTSX is my magic bullet for all-around hunting.

I’ve shot 5 deer in the last 2 hunting seasons including 2 bucks that were between 175-200lbs each and I’ve been fortunate enough to drop them where they stood. I’m to old to be tracking deer all over the woods. I’m sold on this bullet. Won’t even consider anything else.

  2. Vanammo

Hunting in St. Helena Parish Louisiana again with the 35 Whelen CVA Scout 2 with a Vortex scope. Shot a 115 pound Doe at 89 yards. Doe was slightly quartering towards me. Slightly high double lung shot. Doe did not take a step. Exit wound silver dollar size. Broke 2 ribs going in and two going out. Great humane whitetail round the 35 Whelen 180 grain Barnes TTSX.

  3. Vanammo

Hunting in St. Helena Parish in Louisiana shot a doe at 92 yards. Hit doe at point of right shoulder. Bullet exited leaving silver dollar size hole. Exit was at left hip. Deer did not take a step. I was using a CVA Scout 2 single shot with a Nikon Buckmaster. This may be the best bullet/calibre combination for deer under 250 yards available.

  4. Vanammo

I use the Barnes 180gr’s out of my 7600 carbine and love the results. They group great at the range and when it comes time to drop the hammer in November they don’t disappoint. #didntgotwenty

  5. Vanammo

Accurate round for a larger caliber rifle.

  6. Vanammo

Good hard hitting bullet. Very accurate even out to 300 yds. Wish Barnes would let me know what kind of powder they use. Lol

  7. Vanammo

iI havent hunted yet with this ammo, but this is the first ammo shot for this gun and it shot sub moa from the bench. Cant wait for the 20/21 season

  8. Vanammo

If you have the new CVA Scout V2 Rifle in 35 Whelen, this is the bullet to use. I tried Hornady Superformance and Federal Fusion first. Both are great ammo but didn’t group very well. Always had a flyer busting my confidence. Tried these Barnes bullets as a last resort before selling the gun. I’m glad I tried them before selling the gun. I was able to get a .05 inch group with these bad boys. I haven’t shot anything with them yet but Barnes is a proven winner on game.
